Here is a Picture.
A typical picture of my son and my 10 year old ward (whose mom is deployed) who are horsing around. Right behind my son "z" you could see half a pug. That's MA-kytah. Right next to MA-kytah is a Lightstring Tree. You know - the kind you put outside in your lawn during Christmas. Well........we don't have a yard as we live in an apartment so I am so thrilled to share with you what I did with this Lawn Lightstring Tree.

Let's start at the bottom

If you guessed pages from a book then you are correct
We are working our way up the tree which is pretty much how I was able to get those pages on by starting at the bottom.
Here we go.........up, up, up
To the top. Isn't this grapevine star fabulous? It was a thrift shop find at the Red Cross store in a town called Kusel, Germany. Oh how I love thrifting.
And now a full view of the Lightstring Tree
My 10 year old ward and I worked on this tree together. She called it the
5 Old Books & 200 Chapters Christmas Tree.
She is amazing because she counted every page we put on the tree and it came out to exactly 200 Chapters. Not sure how many pages. I guess at her age it's all about how many chapters she reads.

ReplyDeleteA guest at my work left a big box of old books behind and when we tried to donate it to our local thrift shop they wouldn't accept it and the box of books was going to be thrown away. So I took it and made a fun activity out of it. The tree is really nice when we light it up.

Hi Debbie - thank you so much for your comment. My ward/daughter was eager to know how I was going to put book pages on the tree and so I taught her. Her mom, our deployed soldier, is a dear friend of ours whome we met in Guam. We never ever thought we run into each other again. Who would have thought all they way over here in Germany at that. ReplyDeleteThis is so amazingly cool and the only question I would have is how will you store it. I know I made a star wreath out of book pages and it's fairly fragile.
ReplyDeleteHi Terry - Thank you for your comment and storing the strips of book pages will indeed be a challenge. I was thinking that I would be detatching each strip and rolling it loosely and storing in a box. Hmmm this would probably be a good tutorial and then we'll see how it fairs in storage for a year. How were you able to store your star wreath?
